The Singapore Housing & Development Board partnered the International Federation for Housing and Planning (IFHP), Eastern Regional Organization for Planning & Human Settlements (EAROPH), Singapore Institute of Planners (SIP) and Centre for Liveable Cities (CLC) to hold an International Housing Forum (IHF 2017). The Forum was officiated by Minister for National Development & Second Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong.

The Forum focused on the theme of ‘Sustainable Planning, Inclusive Communities’ and aimed to advance the United Nations’ New Urban Agenda, a 20-year road map that guides how cities should be planned and managed.  Setting a new global standard for sustainable urban development, the UN New Urban Agenda was adopted by close to 170 countries, including Singapore, at the 2016 United Nations (UN) Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III)1 held in Quito, Ecuador.

Dr. Orna Rosenfeld presented her research on housing trends and challenges in the Global North and the possibilities for implementing the New Urban Agenda, Sustainable Development Goals and Paris Agreement in the housing sector. She was honoured to later join the panel with Dr. Cheong Koon Hean, Chief Executive Officer of HDB and Deputy President of the IFHP.
